PM Modi Conferred Oman’s Second-Highest Civilian Honour; India-Oman CEPA Signed

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred the Order of Oman, the Sultanate’s second-highest civilian honour, by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq in recognition of his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between India and Oman.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi and Sultan Haitham held a bilateral meeting in Muscat, during which India and Oman signed a landmark Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Negotiations for the agreement had begun in November 2023.

The CEPA is expected to provide a major boost to trade and investment between the two nations. Key Indian sectors such as textiles, footwear, automobiles, auto components, gems and jewellery, and renewable energy are set to benefit directly from the pact.

Addressing the India-Oman Business Summit in Muscat, Prime Minister Modi described the agreement as a long-term roadmap for cooperation. He said the CEPA would shape the trajectory of India-Oman relations for decades and serve as a blueprint for their shared future.

“Today, we are taking a historic decision whose impact will be felt for decades to come. The CEPA will boost trade, strengthen investment confidence, and open new opportunities across all sectors,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also urged startups and businesses to invest in India, innovate, and grow together with India and Oman.

During his visit, PM Modi reaffirmed the enduring friendship between the two countries, stating that regardless of changing circumstances, India’s friendship with Oman would remain steadfast.

He also addressed the Indian diaspora in Muscat, praising their contribution and their respect for diversity in the countries where they live and work.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Muscat on Wednesday evening and was received at the airport by Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said. The two leaders later held formal talks, followed by a dinner hosted in honour of the Prime Minister.
