PM Modi Inaugurated The 46th Session of The World Heritage Committee

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee at Bharat Mandapam on Sunday.

PM Modi said that today India is celebrating the holy festival of Guru Purnima. I congratulate all of you and the countrymen on this festival of spirituality and knowledge. This session is starting on such an important day and it is being organized in India for the first time.

He further said that in the past years we have brought back more than 350 ancient heritages of India. The return of ancient heritages shows the spirit of global generosity and respect for history. The participation of experts from every corner of the world shows the richness of this summit. This event is being held on the land of India which is one of the oldest living civilizations of the world. India is so ancient that every point of the present here tells the story of some glorious past.

PM Modi further said, now take the example of Delhi. The world knows Delhi as the capital of India, but this city is also the center of thousands of years old heritage. Here you will see historical heritage at every step. About 15 kilometers from here, there is a pillar weighing several tons which has been standing in the open for 2000 years. Yet it is rust resistant till date. This makes it clear that India's heritage is not just a history, India's heritage is also a science. India's heritage shows a glorious journey of top-notch engineering.

In the session, PM Modi mentioned the Kedarnath temple and said that even today that place is so geographically inaccessible that people have to walk several kilometers or go by helicopter. That place is still very challenging for any construction. Due to heavy snowfall, it is impossible to work there, but it is important to know that the temple was built in the Kedar Valley in the 8th century. The environment has been taken care of in its engineering. That temple is still standing till date.

"The state of Gujarat where I come from has places like Dholavira and Lothal. The kind of urban planning and arrangements that were in place centuries ago in Dholavira still surprises experts. India's history and civilization are ancient and vast. Therefore, as new facts are emerging, we have to develop new perspectives to look at the past" he said.

"World experts must know about the evidence found in Sinauli in UP. The winding of Sinauli is of Copper Age, but it matches with Vedic Civilization instead of Indus Valley Civilization. A 4 thousand year old chariot has been found there. These new facts show that to understand India, new thinking free from concepts is needed. Become a part of the new understanding of history that is developing in the light of new facts. Heritage is not just history but a shared consciousness. We have to use this potential of heritage for the betterment of the world" he mentioned
