PM Modi Interected: 28-Member Indian Athletics Team For Paris Olympics Announced

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has announced the 28-member Indian athletics team for the Paris Olympics starting on July 26. Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra will lead the Indian team.

Along with Neeraj Chopra, Kishore Jena will also be seen throwing the javelin this time. Annu Rani, who won the gold medal in women's javelin throw at the Asian Games last year, will also represent India in javelin throw in Paris.

The 28-member athletics team for the Paris Olympics includes 17 male and 11 female athletes.

Apart from Neeraj Chopra and Annu Rani, men's 3000m steeplechase athlete Avinash Sable, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, one of Asia's top shot putters among men, women's race walker Priyanka Goswami and 4x400m relay runners Mohammad Anas, Amoj Jacob and Subha Venkatesan have participated in Tokyo three years ago.

Muhammed Anas is part of the Indian men's 4x400m relay team and will be participating in the Olympic Games for the third consecutive time.

Parul Chaudhary will participate in 3000 meters steeplechase and 5000 meters race. She is the only athlete selected to participate in two individual events. She won the gold medal in the 5000 meters race and the silver medal in the 3000 meters steeplechase at the Asian Games last year.

National record holder Akshdeep Singh, Vikas Singh and Paramjeet Singh Bisht will compete in the men's 20km race walk event, while Suraj Panwar will take part in the mixed marathon event with Priyanka Goswami. Akshdeep Singh, Ram Babu, Vikas Singh, Paramjeet Singh Bisht and Suraj Panwar had all qualified for the men's 20km race walk event at the Paris Olympics. Suraj made it through the world rankings, while the other four had met the entry standard.

Men: Avinash Sable (3,000m steeplechase), Neeraj Chopra, Kishore Kumar Jena (javelin), Tajinderpal Singh Toor (shot put), Praveen Chitravel, Abullah Abubakar (triple jump), Akshdeep Singh, Vikas Singh, Paramjeet Singh Bisht (20km walk race), Muhammed Anas, Muhammed Ajmal, Amoj Jacob, Santosh Tamilarasan, Rajesh Ramesh (4x400m relay), Mizo Chacko Kurien (4x400m relay), Suraj Panwar (walk mixed marathon), Sarvesh Anil Kushare (high jump).

Women: Kiran Pahal (400m), Parul Chaudhary (3,000m steeplechase and 5,000m), Jyothi Yaraji (100m hurdles), Annu Rani (javelin throw), Abha Khatua (shot put), Jyotika Sri Dandi, Subha Venkatesan, Vithya Ramaraj, Poovamma MR (4x400m relay), Prachi (4x400m), Priyanka Goswami (20km walk race).

Meanwhile Prime Minister Narendra Modi has interacted with the athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics. He also asked Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra to feed him churma.

Neeraj Chopra started his conversation with Modi by greeting him and asking how are you, to which Modi replied that I am the same. Your churma has not come. To this Neeraj Chopra shyly replied, "I will definitely bring it Sir. Last time in Delhi I had Chinese churma. I will bring Haryana's churma and feed it to you.

PM Modi said Neeraj Chopra that I want to eat churma made by your mother. To this Neeraj promised and said sure sir.

Paris Olympics is to be held from 26 July to 11 August. Talking to the Olympic players, Modi said- I am confident that the players will give their best performance, they instill hope in 140 crore countrymen. The Prime Minister said that he is confident that the athletes will make India proud by giving their best performance.
