PM Modi Invited Zelensky To Visit India

Prime Minister Modi, who is on a visit to Ukraine, has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to visit India.

Addressing a press conference in the Ukrainian capital Kiev, Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar gave this information.

Jaishankar said, 'The Prime Minister has come here (Ukraine) for the first time since 1992 and it is natural to extend such an invitation on such an occasion, as he did in this case. So we hope that President Zelensky will come to India as per his convenience.'

Jaishankar also talked about the humanitarian assistance provided by India to Ukraine.

Jaishankar said, 'In the past we have been providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and I think so far 17 consignments have been delivered to Ukraine, most of which are medical related. India handed over Bhishma cubes of medical assistance to Ukraine. These contain medical assistance equipment which are very effective, compact and can be used in many ways. These cubes weighing a total of 22 tonnes were handed over today.'

It is noteworthy that on Friday PM Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for bilateral talks at the Mariinsky Palace.

Upon reaching the Palace, PM Modi warmly hugged Zelensky and also shook hands with several Ukrainian representatives present at the Palace. The PM was accompanied by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, NS Ajit Doval and others. The two leaders held a restricted meeting to discuss key issues.

This was followed by high-level delegation meetings, which saw important discussions on bilateral cooperation. There was also an exchange of documents to formalise agreements and cooperation between the two countries.

In his meeting with Zelensky, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Russia and Ukraine to come to the table for peace talks and said that the problem cannot be solved on the battlefield. PM Modi said, I went to Russia recently. There too I clearly said that no problem has been solved on the battlefield. The path to solution lies through dialogue and diplomacy. We should move in that direction without wasting time. During this, PM Modi assured that India is ready to play an active role in the peace efforts. PM Modi also said that if he is needed, he is ready to help as a friend
