In a landmark moment for India’s telecom sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday officially launched BSNL’s much-awaited 4G services, built entirely on indigenous technology.
The rollout witnessed the inauguration of nearly 97,500 mobile towers, of which 92,600 are equipped with advanced technology, promising high-speed internet and seamless connectivity to millions. Over 20 lakh new subscribers are set to benefit from this ambitious expansion.
A Special Day for Tripura
Tripura too shared the spotlight as the Prime Minister virtually inaugurated a 4G saturation tower at Bagbari, a tribal area under Mohanpur subdivision in West Tripura. For the first time, villagers here will enjoy uninterrupted modern telecom services, bridging a long-standing digital divide.
Symbol of Self-Reliant India
The project stands as a testament to Atmanirbhar Bharat, with the entire network designed and developed by Tejas Networks, Tata Consultancy Services, and C-DOT. An investment of nearly ₹37,000 crore has powered this ambitious venture.
Future-Ready Network
According to BSNL, the 4G network is future-ready, designed to seamlessly upgrade to 5G services in the coming years. This move ensures high-speed internet and reliable connectivity from villages to metros, creating a robust digital backbone.
Notably, BSNL’s new recharge plans are expected to be 30–40% cheaper than private telecom operators, setting the stage for fresh competition in the telecom market.
Bridging the Rural Digital Divide
With a target to bring 27,000 remote villages under 4G coverage, BSNL aims to revolutionize digital connectivity in India’s heartlands.
Experts Hail the Move
Telecom experts have hailed the initiative as a game-changer, predicting not only a boost to urban connectivity but also a transformational impact on rural economy, education, and digital inclusion.
“This is one of the biggest milestones in BSNL’s 25-year journey. For the first time, India now has a fully indigenous and affordable 4G network,” said BSNL officials.
