Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled a 77-foot-tall bronze statue of Lord Shri Ram at the Shri Sansthan Gokarna Jivottam Math in Goa. Sculpted under the guidance of renowned artist Ram Sutar, the statue bears a resemblance to the iconic Ram idol in Ayodhya, depicting the deity holding a bow and arrow with a serene, divine expression.
The inauguration took place during the “Sardh Panchashatamanotsav,” marking the 550th anniversary of the Sri Sansthan Gokarna Partagali Jivottam Math. Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi described it as a “historic moment,” noting that the Math has withstood centuries of change while remaining a guiding force for society.
“When an institution is rooted in truth and service, it does not falter with the times; instead, it strengthens society’s resolve,” he said. Modi added that the newly installed statue and upcoming museum will become “a permanent center of knowledge, service, and spiritual practice for generations.”
Alongside the statue, a Ramayana-themed park and a Ram museum are being developed in Goa to preserve cultural traditions and connect younger generations with the epic’s legacy.
About Gokarna Partagali Math
A revered religious institution of the Saraswat Brahmin community, the Math was founded in 1656 AD by Shri Ram Chandra Tirtha. Lord Ram, Lakshman, and Sita are the primary deities worshipped here. With 33 branches across the country, the institution is observing year-long 550th anniversary celebrations until December 31, featuring Ram Naam Japa, Bhajani Week, an 11-day festival, and various special pujas, bhajans, and kirtans.
Goa CM Hails Modi’s Visit
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant noted the significance of the moment, saying that PM Modi had recently unfurled the flag at the grand Ram temple in Ayodhya and had now come to Goa to unveil the monumental statue of Lord Ram.
