Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam has been rescheduled to September 13–14, instead of the earlier planned September 8, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on August 27.
The change was made in view of the Vice Presidential elections on September 9, the chief minister said at a press conference in Guwahati. The PM will now spend a night in the state capital.
On September 13, Modi will inaugurate the birth centenary celebrations of legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati. The Assam government will separately hold a programme on September 8 to mark the centenary, with details to be finalised by the celebration committee.
The following day, September 14, the Prime Minister will visit Mangaldoi in Darrang district to inaugurate the Guwahati Ring Road and a bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Kuruwa and Narengi. He will also lay the foundation stone for Mangaldoi Medical College and Hospital.
Later, Modi will travel to Golaghat district, where he will dedicate to the nation the Rs 4,200-crore bio-ethanol plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL).
