Police Must Perform Duty With Dignity: Tripura CM

Tripura Police is working responsibly to provide overall security to the people. Therefore, the police should strive to perform their duties with integrity. As a result of the sincere efforts of the police, the number of various crimes in the state has significantly reduced. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said this while addressing the chief guest at a function organized to celebrate Tripura Police Week at the Manoranjan Debbarma Memorial Stadium in Arundhatinagar today.
At the beginning of the program, the TSR, Tripura Police and Traffic Police personnel greeted the Chief Minister with a parade. At the program, the Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to maintaining law and order in the state. Therefore, the overall crime rate has decreased by 19.3 percent in 2024 compared to 2023. Tripura ranks third among 28 states in terms of the lowest crime rate. According to the latest data of NCRB, Tripura ranks eighth among 28 states in terms of physical assault and crimes against women. The Chief Minister said that in 2024, Tripura had the lowest crime figures in the last 10 years. The Tripura Police played a commendable role in conducting the Lok Sabha and Panchayat elections held in 2024 in a fair and peaceful manner. The Tripura Police was also appreciated by the Election Commission for conducting and completing the elections peacefully.
The Chief Minister said that the police is one of the main sources of justice for the helpless people. In 2024, property crimes have decreased by 45 percent, physical crimes by 38 percent, riots by 75 percent, assault and battery by 37.2 percent and crimes against women by 55 percent. The Chief Minister said that on September 24, 2024, 1173 NLFT and ATTF members surrendered their weapons at the 7th Battalion TSR Headquarters in Jampuijla and returned to normal life. As a result, Tripura can be called a terrorism-free state. Tripura Police is strictly carrying out its duty in anti-drug activities in the campaign for a drug-free Tripura. In the last three years, 1666 cases have been registered in NDPS cases and 3079 people have been arrested.
In 2024, narcotics worth about 867 crore taka have been seized, which is 106 percent more than in 2023. As part of the Drug-Free Tripura campaign and to stop illegal cultivation and trafficking of cannabis, Tripura Police, with the help of other forces. Agencies, destroyed about 1.64 crore cannabis seedlings and trees in 2024. Which is 132 percent more than in 2023. Also, in the last three years, narcotics worth 1,586 crore taka have been seized and cannabis seedlings and trees have been destroyed.
The Chief Minister said that despite various obstacles, Tripura Police is taking strict action against Bangladeshis, Rohingya refugees and other foreign nationals who are illegally entering the state. In 2024, there was an 18 percent increase in cases registered against illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators and a 36.6 percent increase in arrests. In the last one year, Tripura Police has taken prompt action against cyber crimes to seize Rs 2.86 crore from bank accounts, as a result of which Rs 17.61 lakh has been returned to the victims. On December 10, 2019, the state-wide emergency number '112' was launched under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) project. In the recent floods in the state, 53 TSR teams comprising 765 TSR personnel rescued more than 6,200 flood victims and repaired landslides at 51 places. In addition, 109 teams of district police were deployed at 384 places for the rescue of flood victims.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has recently increased the ration money, DA and uniform allowance of Tripura Police and TSR jawans. The honorarium of SPO and Special Executives has been increased to Rs 12,000 and Rs 13,000 respectively. More than 5,000 personnel of Tripura Police have been trained on the three new criminal laws. The government will take initiatives to further expand the system of new police stations, outposts, GRPS, cyber police stations etc. in the coming years. State Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan also spoke on the occasion.
Those who showed excellence in various fields in 2024 were awarded at the Police Week celebration ceremony today. Among them, former police officer Kajal Ghosh received the Lifetime Achiever Award, Nayek Subedar Bipul Karji received the award as the best clerk of TSR, Head Clerk Uttam Biswas received the award as the best clerk of the Civil Police Unit, Sub-Inspector Sanjay Majumder was awarded as the best investigating officer of 2024, Additional SP Dhruv Nath received the award as the Police Man of the Year, New Capital Complex Police Station was awarded as the best police station in terms of use of technology, Kamalpur Police Station received the best award in terms of beat system, Birganj Police Station and Damchhara Police Station jointly received the award as the best police station of 2024. Dhalai district was awarded as the best district in terms of beat system, KTDS Police Training Academy was awarded as the best unit of Tripura Police in terms of use of technology, and the 3rd Battalion was awarded as the best TSR Battalion. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha presented trophies and certificates to the awardees. The Chief Minister also presented financial awards to the families of two police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty and others were also present at the event.
