Pradyot Accuses BJP Faction of Fueling Unrest

In a dramatic escalation of political tensions within Tripura’s ruling alliance, Tipra Motha chief and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Sunday levelled stunning allegations against a section within the BJP, claiming that a faction of the ruling party is financially backing a state minister to foment unrest with the intention of weakening Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and painting Pradyot himself as a communal figure before BJP’s central leadership in New Delhi.

Pradyot made the sensational claim while speaking to reporters after visiting Khumulwng, the tribal heartland that witnessed violent clashes recently, during which party offices of both the BJP and Tipra Motha were torched and several supporters injured.

“A conspiracy to destroy political understanding”

Speaking in sharp tones, Pradyot alleged that the political sabotage is being designed to disrupt his working relationship with Chief Minister Saha.

While refraining from naming either the alleged funders or the minister involved, he confirmed that he has already briefed Chief Minister Manik Saha on the matter.

DGP updated throughout the violence

Pradyot further revealed that he remained in direct touch with the Director General of Police all day, monitoring the volatile situation as it unfolded. He claimed that rumours were purposely spread to provoke direct confrontation between the supporters of the two allied parties.

“Vested interests trying to mislead Delhi”

Escalating his criticism, the Tipra Motha chief said:

“Everyone is aware of the infighting within the BJP. Some people are trying to cash in by destabilising both the CM and me.”

He asserted that these “power-seeking forces” want to convince the BJP’s top leadership that:

  • Dr. Saha’s hold over the state has weakened

  • Pradyot is pushing extremist, divisive, and communal agendas

Mercenaries with no ideology

Pradyot described the troublemakers as “mercenaries who work only for money”, adding that such elements are damaging the political atmosphere of the state and must be dealt with firmly. He urged political parties not to shield these forces, regardless of their political identity.

Reaffirming peace above politics

Amid the rising tensions, Pradyot reiterated his commitment to peace, stability, and development for both tribal and non-tribal communities, stating that a calculated misinformation campaign is being pushed to damage his reputation and destabilize governance.

 A ruling alliance under pressure

The allegations have thrown a fresh spotlight on the uneasy alliance between the BJP and Tipra Motha. With violent clashes, mutual suspicion, and accusations of sabotage now coming into the open, Tripura’s political environment has entered one of its most turbulent phases in recent memory.

Whether the Chief Minister takes decisive action — and how the BJP central leadership responds — may determine not just the future of the ruling alliance, but also the political narrative of the state in the months ahead.
