Launching a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, founder of the Tipra Motha Party, on Sunday (February 15) accused the BJP of failing to usher in meaningful development in the areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. He urged voters not to cast a single vote in favour of the ruling party, terming the issue crucial for the future of tribal youth and the coming generations.
Addressing a joining programme at South Hadrai in West District, Pradyot welcomed 150 voters from 30 families, who switched allegiance from various political parties to the Tipra Motha Party.
Asserting that tribals are the “sons of the soil,” he said their continued poverty in their own homeland reflected a lack of unity, or thansa. “The people are the same, but politics has created divisions and shattered our unity. That is why we are poor today. We must fight for the future of our children and remain united, or their future will be at risk. They claim to have abundant resources, but that wealth belongs to the Tiprasa people. Today we are branded with derogatory terms and divided. Without unity, we will gain nothing,” he said.
In an apparent reference to the BJP, Pradyot alleged that the party’s strategy was to divide tribal communities to consolidate political control over Tripura. “I am not afraid of them. They claim they will capture the district council in 2026. I say we will capture the Tripura Assembly in 2028. We are the sons of the soil,” he declared.
Questioning the claims of a “double-engine government,” he alleged a glaring absence of development in rural and ADC areas. “There are no roads, no mobile towers, and no drinking water in the villages. All funds are being concentrated in Agartala. Gas and oil are extracted from district council areas, yet the revenue flows to Agartala. Every vote carries equal value, but unity is our strength,” he said.
Pradyot further claimed that while he has been extensively touring tribal regions, the BJP leadership remained confined to Agartala and began campaigning only with elections around the corner. “They do not deserve a single vote. This is about the future of our youth and the next generation. We must respond decisively. We understand what is right and what is wrong,” he asserted.
