With the 2026 Assam Assembly elections approaching, the Congress party has intensified its organisational groundwork by launching a statewide training initiative aimed at strengthening booth-level structures and expanding grassroots outreach.
As part of this drive, a special training camp was organised on Thursday, February 12, at the Goroimari Regional Community Hall under the 27 No. Chamaria Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC). The programme witnessed the participation of senior party leaders, ticket aspirants, and grassroots workers.
The training camp is part of a broader strategy by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) to energise party cadres and streamline election management across constituencies. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who heads the AICC Screening Committee for Assam, is expected to visit the state soon to review poll preparations and oversee the candidate selection process.
Several prominent leaders and aspirants attended the Chamaria training camp, including Chhaygaon MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed, APCC spokesperson Aman Wadud, advocates Rafiqul Islam and Kurban Ali, APCC Kisan Morcha vice-president Mehebub Ali, and former MLAs Gopinath Das and Fazlur Rahman.
National booth management trainer Ayush Pandey conducted technical sessions focusing on election preparedness, booth-level coordination, and voter outreach strategies. APCC media coordinator Happy Gogoi and Kamrup district Congress observer Anowar Hussain also addressed party workers, emphasising organisational strengthening and message discipline.
The programme saw strong participation from local leadership as well. Goroimari Block Congress president Nurul Islam, Chamaria Block Congress president Taizuddin Ahmed, Kamrup District Congress Seva Dal president Ajirul Sarkar, and Zila Parishad members Asmina Haque Choudhury and Hazrat Ali were present during the deliberations.
Speaking to the media, MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed stated that representatives from all 19 mandals, booth-level workers, and ticket aspirants of the Chamaria constituency took part in the workshop. He also informed that the Congress Election Committee will hold its first meeting on February 16 at Rajiv Bhavan in Guwahati.
Ahmed, however, alleged that the BJP-led government is attempting to undermine democratic processes by manipulating voter lists, including the alleged use of deceased voters’ data and voter list transfers. He said the training programme aims to equip party workers with skills to counter such challenges and safeguard electoral integrity.
Raising concerns over voter deletions, Ahmed further alleged that large-scale removals are taking place in parts of Assam, targeting specific communities. He asserted that the Congress remains committed to protecting the voting rights of all communities and ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.
