On the eve of the first phase of voting for 121 seats in Bihar, Rahul Gandhi held a 1 hour 20 minute press conference alleging a coordinated voter fraud operation across states. Calling it “Operation Government Steal,” he said that voter list tampering was being systematically carried out to influence elections.
Rahul presented data claiming that 3.5 lakh voters were deleted from Haryana’s rolls before the 2024 Assembly elections — a pattern now being repeated in Bihar. “Voter lists are released just before polls to destroy democracy,” he remarked.
During the press conference, Rahul displayed a photo of a Brazilian model, alleging that her image appeared under multiple names—Seema, Sweety, Saraswati—across 10 booths, allowing her to vote 22 times. He said the misuse of voter IDs led to the theft of 2.5 million votes in the 2024 Haryana elections.
He also claimed that another woman voted 100 times in a single constituency. However, he clarified that the model’s photo was publicly available on the free stock platform Unsplash, originally uploaded by photographer Matheus Ferrero.
Rahul further questioned Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s statement before the 2024 results, where Saini had said, “We have all the arrangements in place.” Rahul asked, “What was this system he was talking about? Was it the system that ensured BJP’s victory?”
To highlight the situation in Bihar, Rahul called five residents from Jamui on stage, who claimed that their names, along with 300 others from their village, were missing from the voter list. One voter urged Rahul to ensure such exclusion doesn’t recur.
The Congress leader also took a personal dig, saying, “They took away my house, now they’re taking Narendra’s too,” referring to voters whose house numbers were listed as zero. He drew parallels with his own eviction from his official residence at 12 Tughlaq Road in 2023.
Displaying a photo of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Rahul added sarcastically, “Now let’s hear Gyanesh’s wisdom—those whose house number is 0 must be living under a bridge or near a lamppost.”
Ending on a lighter yet poignant note, Rahul said, “Now this poor girl (the Brazilian model) will be trolled a lot,” reiterating his claim that fake identities were used to manipulate votes in Haryana and similar tactics were now surfacing in Bihar.
