Red Alert In Assam As ULFA-I Threats Of Bomb Attack in 24 Places

There was a stir in Assam when reports of bombs being planted at many places came to light. Actually, the banned ULFA-I claimed on Thursday to have planted bombs at 24 places in the state. 

After this, the security forces sent teams to search for explosives. 

A senior police officer said that bomb disposal squads have been sent to all the places mentioned by ULFA-I, but there is no news of bombs or explosives being found anywhere. 

Meanwhile, an email was sent to media houses on behalf of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA-Independent). In this, the terrorist organization said that the bombs did not explode due to technical failure. 

It gave a list identifying the exact location of 19 blasts. It also said that the locations of five more explosives could not be ascertained. The official sought the cooperation of the public in defusing the bombs.


A senior official of the Assam Police Headquarters said that all the Superintendents of Police of the districts, especially those included in the list by the anti-peace talks faction of the ULFA, have been alerted and have been asked to conduct a thorough search of the areas. He said that bomb disposal squads, metal detectors and sniffer dogs have been sent to every location. So far we have not received any information about the recovery of bombs. Eight of the 24 locations are in Guwahati However, some local police officials of Nagaon, Lakhimpur and Sivasagar claimed that they have recovered some bomb-like material from the spot. Eight of the 24 locations are in Guwahati. These also include an open ground near the official residences of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other ministers located in Dispur. Another location is the Satgaon road leading to the army cantonment at Narengi in Guwahati. Apart from these, Ashram Road, Panbazar, Jorbat, Bhetapara, Maligaon and Rajgarh in the capital have also been named as the locations of the bomb blasts. Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Tamulpur, Tinsukia and Golaghat districts are also named as some places where the ULFA-I has claimed to have planted bombs. 

The police have closed all the roads around the places mentioned in the mail. Senior police officers have reached all the places and are monitoring the search operation
