These elections will be held in all parts of the United Kingdom including England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The last date for nomination in the 2024 general election was Friday 7 June 2024.

Candidates contesting the election have put their strength into campaigning for their parties for the six weeks before polling day.

The parliamentary system of government in India is derived from the British (UK) constitution. In such a situation, there are many similarities between the elections of India and Britain. In this general election, people aged 18 years and above from every part of the UK will vote to elect their MP.

This voting will be for a total of 650 parliamentary seats. The person elected will represent the constituency in the House of Commons, the lower house of the British Parliament, for five years. Many candidates try their luck in each constituency. Under the First Past the Post system, the candidate who gets the most votes becomes an MP.

A total of 392 parties are registered for this UK election. However, the main contest is between Rishi Sunak's Conservatives and the main opposition leader Keir Starmer's Labour Party. Surveys conducted before the election have predicted that the Labour Party will win a huge majority in Parliament.

If the surveys prove correct, Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's 18-month term will end and the people of Britain will see a new party taking charge of the country for the first time in 14 years on Friday morning.

Conservatives have ruled Britain for the last 14 years. However, these years have been full of turmoil from a political and economic point of view and five Conservative Prime Ministers have taken power in Britain in the last eight years. The

Survey conducted by data analysis group YouGov shows the Labour Party ahead by a margin of 17 points. According to a YouGov survey, 37% of people have said that they want to vote for Labour, while 20% said that they will vote for the Conservative Party. The

Survey predicted the Labour Party to win 425 seats in the House of Commons, which will be a huge gain of 223 seats for the party from the previous result. On the other hand, the Conservative Party is estimated to get only 108 seats, which will be a huge loss of 257 seats.

In the 2019 general election, the Conservative Party won 43 percent of the popular vote and secured 365 seats under the leadership of Boris Johnson. At the same time, the Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn won 32 percent of the votes in 2019 and secured 202 seats.

Keir Starmer was elected President of the Labor Party in 2020. However, just after Starmer became the President, the party suffered its worst defeat in 85 years. He immediately declared it his mission to make the party victorious again. Starmer's efforts to bring the Labor Party back to the center of British politics and bring wider appeal to voters seem to be succeeding. Now surveys say that after four years, 61-year-old Starmer can take the top post in Britain.
