Rohini Acharya, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter, has intensified her allegations against Tejashwi Yadav’s close aides as she left for Mumbai on Sunday to stay with her in-laws, citing safety and emotional distress.
Speaking to reporters before departing, Rohini reiterated that she had “disowned” only her brother Tejashwi, not her parents or sisters. “Whatever I had to say I have already said on my social media. I haven’t lied about anything. Go and ask Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, Rachel Yadav, and Rameez,” she said, stressing that her father Lalu Prasad “has always stood by” her.
Rohini, who contested the Lok Sabha elections from Saran last year, said her mother-in-law in Mumbai insisted she return as the unfolding events left her “extremely worried.” She added, “My parents and my sisters were crying for me yesterday. In a family where there are brothers, only they should be making sacrifices… I have just disowned my brother.”
Her exit from the Rashtriya Janata Dal came barely 24 hours after the party suffered a dramatic collapse in the Bihar Assembly elections — its seat tally plunging from 75 to about 25, leaving the organisation in deep introspection.
In a series of social media posts, Rohini alleged she was subjected to “filthy abuses,” claiming that an attempt was made to hit her with a slipper during a confrontation involving Tejashwi’s aides — Sanjay Yadav, now an RJD Rajya Sabha MP, and Rameez, a long-time associate.
The allegations triggered an emotional reaction from her elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, who was expelled earlier this year from both the RJD and the family. Posting through the Janshakti Janata Dal’s social media handle, he said the episode had “shaken [his] heart to the core,” declaring that while he had braved several attacks himself, the “humiliation” of his sister was “unbearable.”
Tej Pratap warned of “harsh consequences” for what he called “injustice,” appealing directly to their father, Lalu Prasad: “Give me a signal… just one nod, and the people of Bihar will bury these Jaichands.”
He further alleged that “a few faces” were influencing Tejashwi’s judgement and claimed the matter had now become a fight for “the dignity of a daughter and the self-respect of Bihar.”
Tej Pratap’s outburst comes months after his removal from the party due to a controversial social media post that resurfaced discussions around his strained marriage and ongoing divorce case with Aishwarya Rai.
With the Yadav family now split across political, personal, and emotional lines, the crisis in the RJD appears far from over — even as the party struggles to recover from a bruising electoral setback.
