Role of Livestock In Strengthening Rural Economy Of Tripura is Undeniable: Chief Minister

The role of livestock in strengthening the rural economy of Tripura is undeniable. Active participation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in livelihood and socio-economic development through animal husbandry is very important. The GSDP of the state can increase through the Livestock Development Department.

Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha said this while inaugurating the A-Help Program organized at Pragna Bhavan on Thursday under the management of the Livestock Development Department.

In the event, Chief Minister Dr. Saha said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is implementing various innovative projects to take the country forward. The state government is also working in the direction indicated by the Prime Minister. Through the A-HELP project, now animals living in remote areas will also benefit from health services through animal lovers. And keeping this in mind, on September 2, 2021, the Central Government, through the mediation of the Rural Development Department, signed an agreement between the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying and the State Rural Livelihood Mission. According to this agreement, members of various self-help groups who are engaged as animal lovers will work as accredited representatives of Accredited Agents for Health and Extension of Livestock Production (A-HELP) to provide primary animal health services.

The Chief Minister stressed the need to strengthen the veterinary infrastructure of the state. He said that Tripura currently has one veterinary college. There are some problems with the faculty there. However, steps are being taken to resolve this problem. At present, the staff of this department are actively working to implement various developmental projects as well as provide animal health services. The participation of animal husbandry workers as recognized representatives under A-HELP will undoubtedly further improve the animal health infrastructure of the state.

Dr. Saha said that under this project, animal husbandry workers associated with Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) will be selected as accredited A-Help representatives.

The state Animal Resources Development Department with the support of National Dairy Development Department Board will arrange 16 days of special training for all these selected animal husbandry workers.

After the training, all the trained animal husbandry workers will reach the homes of the animal husbandry workers at the village level. In addition, services like artificial insemination and vaccination will be provided under the direct supervision of local veterinarians to provide proper animal health services. Apart from providing health services, A-Help animal husbandry workers will also be useful in recording the number of livestock and poultry in the village, keeping records of births and deaths of animals. In this project, animal husbandry workers will provide scientific animal care and other animal husbandry related information to the animal husbandry workers of the village.
