RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Calls for Collective Responsibility and Patience in Rebuilding Peace in Manipur

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday urged the people of Manipur to adopt patience, unity, and collective responsibility in restoring peace and stability in the state, cautioning that reconstruction is a long-term process.

“Destruction takes minutes, but construction requires years, especially when done inclusively,” Bhagwat said while addressing dignitaries in Imphal at the start of his three-day visit to Manipur.

He stressed that while the government was undertaking significant measures, sustainable peace would require deeper participation from society at large.
“Awareness of the general public is the main factor. Everything should not be expected from the government; the responsibility of the society is very much required,” he noted, adding that the RSS aims to build strong social capital for a self-reliant India.

Defends RSS Against Long-standing Misinformation

Bhagwat said that misinformation campaigns against the organisation have existed since 1932–33, including from international groups that he claimed lacked understanding of India’s civilisational character.
He urged people to understand the RSS “through its shakha system and work on the ground rather than perception-driven narratives.”

“There is no organisation comparable to the RSS, just as the sea, the sky, and the ocean have no comparison,” he remarked, asserting that the organisation seeks to organise Hindu society—including those who oppose it—without aiming to build a power centre.

He also clarified that “Hindu” in the RSS framework is a cultural and civilisational concept, saying it is “not a noun but an adjective.”

Focus on Five Centenary-Year Initiatives

Bhagwat highlighted five major focus areas the organisation is working on during its centenary year:

  • Social harmony

  • Family awakening

  • Environment protection

  • Promotion of indigenous identity and products

  • Civic responsibility

He lauded Manipur’s traditional values, including the use of native attire and languages, and encouraged strengthening such practices to preserve cultural identity.

Emphasis on Skill Development

Skill building, he said, remains critical for economic empowerment of the youth, and he interacted with participants on matters related to youth development, employment, and reservation policies.

Bhagwat’s visit comes at a time when Manipur continues efforts to rebuild social trust and normalcy after months of ethnic unrest.
