Russia Skips: Ukraine Peace Summit Begins in Switzerland

Amid the 840-day war between Russia and Ukraine, a peace summit begins on Saturday at Bergenstock Resort in Switzerland.

This two-day summit will be the fourth summit to stop the war. Before this, three summits have been held in Copenhagen, Jeddah and Malta.

According to news agency AP, Swiss authorities had invited 160 countries for the conference, out of which leaders or representatives of about 90 countries including India  participates in it.

However, many big countries refused to participate in it. Russia has not been invited for this summit.

Russia's important ally China has also decided to stay away from this summit. Brazil, the current president of the G20, has done the same. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan will also not participate in the summit. US President Joe Biden,

Ukraine's biggest supporter, will also not attend this summit. However, Vice President Kamala Harris will be present in his place.

4 thousand soldiers have been deployed for the security of the world leaders gathering in Switzerland. Apart from this, a steel ring has been placed near the venue. Fencing has been done in the area of 6.5 kilometers around it. An 8 kilometer long wire net has also been laid here.

The Swiss military has been given the responsibility of security in the area. Their air force is constantly monitoring the area. 5 military helicopters have been deployed to protect the heliport built near the venue. Apart from this, double layer fencing has also been done there.

Before the summit, PM Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Italy on Friday. The PM told Zelensky that India supports a peaceful solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. This war can be ended only through diplomacy and dialogue.

After this meeting, Zelensky posted that India is sending a high-level delegation to the Ukraine Peace Summit. He expressed hope that at least 100 countries will gather at the summit.

A  day before the Switzerland Peace Summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin also made a statement. He said that the war against Ukraine will stop only when the Ukrainian army withdraws from the four areas on which Russia has claimed. Also, Ukraine will give up its insistence on joining NATO.

Apart from this, Ukraine will also have to withdraw the army deployed on its borders and the western countries will have to lift the sanctions imposed on Russia. This is the first time in two years of the Russia-Ukraine war that Putin has openly put forward the conditions for ending the war.

However, Ukraine has rejected these conditions of Putin. Ukraine has called it a pretense and absurd. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on this ultimatum that he does not trust Putin.

At the G7 summit in Italy, he said that Putin is plotting the same conspiracy that Nazi leader Hitler had hatched to capture Europe in 1930 and 1940. Hitler had also said that if you give us Czechoslovakia, we will stop the war. Putin is also saying the same thing. We cannot trust him.

Zelensky has prepared a 10-point proposal for the Ukraine Peace Summit. It includes many points including the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine to end the war. Zelensky has demanded in the proposal that Russia withdraw its army from the territory of Ukraine. Along with this, it should also liberate the areas including Crimea, which it has occupied
