Russia Threatened US With Third World War

Russia has threatened the US with a third world war. Its threat has come at a time when Western countries are considering allowing Ukraine to carry out more attacks on Russian territory.

Referring to the threat of nuclear attacks, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that such ideas are like playing with fire. At the same time, former Russian President and Vladimir Putin's close aide Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia is practicing the deployment of nuclear weapons to respond to any attack on its soil aided by the West.

He further said that any response would not be limited to Ukraine.

"We are once again requesting that they stop playing with fire. These actions are like small children playing with matches. But the consequences are very dangerous for their masters," Lavrov said. Lavrov also referred to the possibility of a third world war and said it would not be limited to Europe. "The Americans clearly link the conversation about the third world war as something that, God forbid, if it happens, will only affect Europe," Lavrov said.

Lavrov's statement comes amid calls for Ukraine to be allowed to use weapons provided by partners to strike even deeper into Russian territory. So far, Ukraine is allowed to use missiles provided by US and European partners defensively and in a very limited way in areas bordering Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly called for permission to strike even deeper inside Russia, as Russia continues to attack civilian targets inside Ukraine.

This isn't the first time Russia has made a nuclear threat amid the ongoing Ukraine conflict. In June, Russian President Vladimir Putin said it was a mistake to think Russia would never use nuclear weapons. "For some reason, the West believes Russia will never use them. You can't take this lightly, superficially," Putin said, according to NBC News. Furthermore, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that supplying weapons to attack inside Russia "cannot remain without consequences."

In May, top Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev said Russia was practicing the deployment of nuclear weapons to respond to any attack on its soil backed by the West. He added that any response would not be limited to Ukraine.

"In certain circumstances, the response will not be limited to Kiev alone and will involve not just explosives but special ammunition. And responding to such attacks is the purpose of the planned military exercises. Even His Majesty's semi-educated fools should understand this," Medvedev said
