Sabroom: Women Blocked NH Protesting Liquor Shop in Populated Area

Women blocked the National Highway protesting against the opening of new foreign liquor counter. The incident took place in Harina under Sabroom Sub-division in South Tripura District.

The traffic in the area adjacent to the Harina health sub-center came to a standstill due to the blockade. The police rushed to the spot after receiving the information.

According to the report a new foreign liquor counter has been opened in West Harina area on the way from Harina to Thaibong.

The local residents said that, they have no problem if liquor counters are provided anywhere in Harina except this township from Harina to Thaibong. But  they will never accept any kind of liquor shop in this populated area. 

In protest of this, the women blocked the Sabruoom Agartala National Highway  from Monday morning. Meanwhile, the traffic stopped due to the blockade.

After receiving the information, the police of Sabroom police station rushed to the spot. The police spoke to the protestors and assured that necessary action would be taken in consultation with the higher officials. Based on that assurance, they withdrew the blockade.
