Sachin Tendulkar Denies Rumours of BCCI Presidency Bid

Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has firmly denied speculation linking him to the post of BCCI president, with his management company issuing a categorical clarification on Thursday.

In a strongly worded statement, SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd said:
“It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations.”

The denial comes amid intense buzz ahead of the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28, where elections are scheduled for several key positions, including the board’s president and IPL chairman.

The top post has been vacant since Roger Binny’s exit earlier this month after he turned 70. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal may also face a mandatory cooling-off period after completing six years in administration.

However, other senior office-bearers are expected to continue. Devajit Saikia, the current secretary, looks set to retain charge after stepping in for Jay Shah, who moved on to become ICC chairman. Joint secretary Rohan Gauns Desai and treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia are also likely to stay on.

Binny, who took over as BCCI president in October 2022, was expected to continue until this year’s AGM. With the position unexpectedly open, speculation had intensified over potential successors — but Tendulkar’s categorical denial has effectively quashed any such rumours.
