Sarma Confident of Massive BJP Win in Assam Polls

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday projected an emphatic victory for the BJP in the forthcoming Assembly elections, asserting that the party stands poised to secure a decisive and possibly unprecedented mandate amid a conspicuously weakened opposition landscape.

Addressing a campaign rally in Nagaon, Sarma contended that public endorsement for the BJP has deepened significantly over the past five years, placing the party in a commanding electoral position.

“Given the prevailing momentum, the electorate may well deliver us a mandate exceeding 126 seats. From Sadiya to Dhubri, and across both the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys, the opposition’s footprint on the ground is virtually nonexistent,” he stated.

Reinforcing his claim, the Chief Minister remarked that opposition activity is largely absent from his campaign trail, surfacing only in mediated narratives.

“I become aware of the opposition only through interactions with the press. On the ground, their organisational presence is scarcely discernible,” Sarma observed.

He further emphasised the increasing political maturity of Assam’s electorate, describing voters as more assertive, informed, and decisive than in previous electoral cycles.

“Over the past five years, the people of Assam have grown more empowered and politically conscious. This time, they will exercise their franchise with unequivocal conviction,” he said.

Addressing the contentious issue of illegal infiltration, Sarma maintained that associated disturbances have notably declined, while reiterating his administration’s resolve to intensify enforcement mechanisms.

“In the coming years, we will adopt even more stringent measures to curb illegal infiltration. The situation has already improved, and we remain steadfast in safeguarding law and order,” he affirmed.

Outlining a broader ideological vision, Sarma underscored the importance of cultural resurgence, invoking the enduring legacy of Srimanta Sankardev and Ahom founder Sukapha.

“Our objective is to shape a resurgent Assam rooted in its civilisational ethos, cultural heritage, and historical identity,” he added.
