Receiving a dramatic “bulldozer salute” during the BJP’s ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday (March 1) proclaimed that extensive eviction drives would be launched across five lakh bighas—over 1.65 lakh acres—of land should he secure a renewed mandate in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Accompanied by Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, the Chief Minister flagged off the second day of the march from Jagiroad. The yatra proceeded through Morigaon, Raha, and Nagaon before culminating at Barhampur.
At Jagiroad, party workers orchestrated a symbolic display by mounting ten bulldozers and showering flower petals upon Sarma as his convoy passed beneath—an unmistakable assertion of the government’s uncompromising stance on alleged land encroachment. The spectacle underscored a policy position that has remained a politically charged issue in the state.
Reiterating his administration’s resolve, Sarma affirmed that stringent action against illegal encroachment would persist if the Bharatiya Janata Party returns to power. He framed the proposed eviction campaign as a decisive effort to reclaim public land and fortify law and order across Assam.
