The BCCI on Wednesday confirmed that Indian captain Shubman Gill is recovering quickly from the neck injury he sustained during the Kolkata Test on November 15. Gill will travel with the team to Guwahati on November 19, though his participation in the second Test remains uncertain and will depend on ongoing medical assessment.
Gill suffered the injury while attempting a sweep shot after scoring just 4 runs in India’s first innings. He retired hurt and was later taken to a private hospital, where he underwent scans and was seen wearing a neck brace.
With Gill unavailable, vice-captain Rishabh Pant led the side for the remainder of the Kolkata Test and is expected to captain again if Gill is ruled out of the next match.
India trails 0–1 in the two-match series after a 30-run defeat in Kolkata, bowled out for 93 while chasing 124. The team must win in Guwahati to level the series.
