India’s pace spearhead Mohammed Siraj has been nominated for the ICC Player of the Month award for August after his stunning performance in the final Test against England at The Oval.
Siraj, who shouldered India’s bowling attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, finished as the leading wicket-taker of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, scalping 23 wickets while sending down over 185 overs. His defining moment came in the fifth Test where his nine wickets earned him the Player of the Match award and helped India level the series 2-2.
Joining him on the shortlist are New Zealand’s Matt Henry and West Indies’ Jayden Seales. Henry demolished Zimbabwe with 16 wickets at a remarkable average of just over nine, sealing a 2-0 series sweep. Seales, on the other hand, scripted history in the Caribbean, delivering a match-winning 6/18 to hand West Indies their first ODI series win over Pakistan in 34 years.
The winner of the ICC Player of the Month for August will be revealed later this month. If Siraj clinches the award, it will mark another milestone in his steadily rising career as India’s most reliable strike bowler overseas.
