SIT Confirms Brutal Murder of Tripura Student Angel Chakma

A harrowing post-mortem report into the death of Tripura student Angel Chakma has laid bare the extreme brutality that led to his killing, triggering outrage across the country.

The autopsy findings confirm that the 24-year-old was subjected to sustained and savage physical assault, suffering catastrophic injuries before he finally succumbed on December 26, nearly two weeks after the attack.

Investigators revealed that Chakma’s body bore multiple signs of severe trauma, with particularly devastating damage to the neck and spinal region. The report records blunt force injuries, including a deep contusion on the right side of the neck, extensive bruising on the abdomen and shoulders, and multiple fractures along the spinal column, indicating repeated and forceful blows.

Angel Chakma, a student at a Dehradun-based college, was allegedly attacked by a group of local youths on December 9. Despite battling for his life in hospital for almost 17 days, he ultimately succumbed to the injuries inflicted during the assault.

While initial police assessments pointed towards an attack, the post-mortem has now conclusively established homicide, with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) determining that the most lethal blows were aimed at the head and back.

The investigation has intensified as police continue to hunt for the prime accused. Of the six individuals named in the case, five have been arrested, while the main suspect remains on the run, believed to have fled across the border into Nepal.

To accelerate the manhunt, authorities have announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for any information leading to the arrest of the absconding accused.
