The Board of Control for Cricket in India has appointed Sitanshu Kotak as the new batting coach of Team India. After losing the home Test series in New Zealand and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, India's poor batting has come under question. Rohit Sharma's team lost six out of eight Tests. In such a situation, the BCCI has entrusted a big responsibility to Kotak, a veteran player of domestic cricket.
Sitanshu Kotak has worked with many Indian players as the head batting coach at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Apart from being technically strong, Sitanshu has also coached both India A and the national team, whenever legends like Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman were on leave, Sitanshu Kotak used to take over the coaching responsibilities. Sitanshu Kotak accompanied the Indian team to Ireland in 2024, where Jasprit Bumrah returned after a 10-month break from international cricketÂ
Sitashu Hargovindbhai Kotak was born on 19 October 1972 in Rajkot. Left-handed batsman Sitashu Kotak
was a prolific run scorer for Saurashtra in the domestic circuit. During his career, he scored 8061 runs in 130 first-class matches at an impressive average of 41.76. His contribution with the ball as well as batting was commendable. He took 70 wickets for Saurashtra.
After retiring from domestic cricket in 2013, Kotak moved into coaching. He started by completing Level 1 and 2 coaching courses from both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). He became the coach of the Saurashtra team in October 2014. Under his coaching, Saurashtra achieved significant success, including winning the 2020 Ranji Trophy final.
In August 2019, he was appointed the head coach of the India A team after Rahul Dravid took over as the coach of India A in 2019.
Kotak also held other responsibilities. In 2016, he worked as an assistant coach for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Gujarat Lions and as a batting coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
