In a daring pre-dawn jailbreak, six inmates — including a Bangladeshi national and a convicted murderer — slashed a guard with sharp weapons and escaped from Dharmanagar Sub-Jail on Wednesday.
Among the fugitives is life convict Sunil Debbarma, serving sentence for murder, and Narayan Chandra Dutta, a Bangladeshi booked under the Passport Act. Others include Abdul Pata from Assam’s Nilambazar, earlier arrested in narcotics cases, along with undertrials Rahim Ali, Rosan Ali, and Nazim Uddin.

The incident occurred when prisoners were taken out for breakfast. Injured jail staff Bedu Miah is recovering at Dharmanagar District Hospital.
Security forces immediately launched a state-wide manhunt led by SP Avinash Kumar Rai, sealing all exit routes to Assam, Mizoram, and Bangladesh. The Border Security Force has been placed on high alert to prevent a possible cross-border escape.

Officials described the escape as “one of the most serious security breaches” in recent years in Tripura.
According to the latest information one prisoner among six has been arrested from the Chandrapur area.
