So Far 226 People Died In Violence: Manipur CM in Assembly

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday said the state government is working for peace talks and several meetings have been held in Silchar, Assam. 

The Chief Minister said in the Assembly, "We are making a lot of efforts for peace talks with the help of MLAs and other members. Meetings have been held in Silchar and we will soon make an announcement in this regard." However, the Chief Minister did not give details about the people involved in the meetings.

The CM termed the ongoing violence in the state as unwanted and unexpected and said that arrests or other strict measures can worsen the law and order situation. 

Chief Minister N Biren Singh alleged that the Manipur violence is being politicized, which is making the situation difficult. The Chief Minister said that there are some elements who are doing politics. I appeal to everyone not to get involved in such activities. 

When Congress MLA Ranjit Singh questioned the violence despite the presence of more than 38,000 armed forces in the state, the CM said, 'The violence is being investigated by a retired Supreme Court judge. After the investigation, it will be known what lapses led to the violence and after the investigation, action will be taken against the elements responsible for the violence. Responding to a question, the CM said, 'So far 226 people have died in the violence. There is difficulty in arresting the culprits due to the crowd.
