South Africa Election Vote Counting On. Ruling ANC Far From Majority

Votes were cast for the general election in South Africa on Wednesday, and now the initial trends of the election results have started coming in.

From the initial trends, it seems that the ruling ANC party may remain far from the majority. However, it is too early to say this clearly because the counting of votes is still going on at 23 thousand polling stations in the country and the election results will be clear only by Sunday.

South Africa's Election Commission, the Independent Electoral Commission, shared the voting data till 11 am on Thursday.

Only 14 percent votes have been counted so far and ANC has got 43 percent votes in it. Opposition party Democratic Alliance has got 26 percent and Economic Freedom Fighters have got 8 percent votes.

There is a lot of discussion about the general elections in South Africa and 52 political parties are in the election fray.

The ruling ANC is under criticism on issues like corruption and lack of development of infrastructure.

Election forecasts also show that the ANC is far from a majority. If this happens, it will be the first time in 30 years that the ANC will not get a majority. The ANC has been in power continuously in South Africa since the end of apartheid and its great leader Nelson Mandela came to power democratically for the first time.

However, President Cyril Ramaphosa is hopeful that this time people will support his party again.

ANC is lagging behind badly in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province and a new party, MK Party, had got 42 percent votes in this state till 11 am. MK Party is the party of former president Jacob Zuma and Natal is Zuma's home state.

Jacob Zuma has a huge base in this state. This is the reason why ANC is lagging behind badly here. Jacob Zuma has been barred from contesting the elections in the case of contempt of court.

However, Jacob Zuma's picture is on the ballot paper because the ballot papers had been printed by the time the order came. This is the reason that instead of printing crores of ballot papers at the last moment, only the ballot papers with Jacob Zuma's picture were used.
