Defending champions India endured a resounding 76-run defeat against South Africa in their third Super 8 fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, bringing an end to their remarkable 12-match winning streak in the tournament.
After winning the toss at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, South Africa opted to bat first and posted an imposing 187 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.
In response, India faltered under sustained pressure and were bundled out for 111 in 18.5 overs. Marco Jansen spearheaded the bowling attack with a four-wicket haul, while Keshav Maharaj claimed three wickets. Corbin Bosch chipped in with two scalps, and skipper Aiden Markram accounted for one. Shivam Dube emerged as India’s top scorer with 42 runs.
Earlier, David Miller powered South Africa’s innings with a blistering 63 off 35 deliveries, while Dewald Brevis contributed a fluent 45. Tristan Stubbs remained unbeaten on 44 from 24 balls, providing a strong finish.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah claimed three wickets, and Arshdeep Singh picked up two, but their efforts proved insufficient to avert a heavy defeat.
