SP, BSP Criticise Congress at AI Summit

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Friday sharply criticised the Congress party over the disruption at the AI Summit held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Akhilesh Yadav stated that when delegates from across the world are present, such disturbances undermine the nation’s dignity. “Opposing the government is an internal democratic matter, but creating chaos before international representatives amounts to an affront to the country,” he said.

Echoing similar concerns, Mayawati wrote on X that the Congress party’s conduct was “highly condemnable.” She added that while political protest is a democratic right, staging such demonstrations at an international conference raises serious concerns about India’s global image.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged protests in several states, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bihar, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir, condemning the Congress for disrupting the summit. In Mumbai’s Mulund area, BJP workers waved black flags at Rahul Gandhi’s convoy.

Four Congress workers accused of creating a disturbance at the AI Summit were produced before a Patiala House Court in Delhi. The police informed the court that the protesters were allegedly influenced by Nepal’s “Gen-Z” movement and claimed the demonstration was part of a broader conspiracy. The incident reportedly occurred in the presence of several global leaders and technology industry experts attending the summit.

Police further stated that they need to investigate who printed the T-shirts bearing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph and to recover the accused’s mobile phones for forensic examination. Judicial Magistrate Ravi remanded the four accused to five days of police custody.

On February 20, activists of the Indian Youth Congress protested against the India–US trade agreement during the AI Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam. Videos of the demonstration circulated widely on social media.

More than ten activists were seen holding white T-shirts featuring photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, along with the slogan: “PM is compromised.”

Those arrested include Indian Youth Congress National Secretary Krishna Hari (Bihar), State Secretary Kundan Yadav (Bihar), State President Ajay Kumar (Uttar Pradesh), and Narasimha Yadav (Telangana).
