Students Shouldn't Participate In Rallies Which Are Not Permitted: Manipur Education Minister

Manipur Education Minister Thounaojam Basantakumar Singh on Tuesday said students should not be allowed to participate in unauthorised rallies and meetings. He appealed to people to keep educational institutions free from such activities.

Addressing a press conference, Singh expressed concern over the involvement of some people who are not affiliated with recognised student bodies and who are allegedly encouraging students to join unauthorised protests.

He said, 'It is very unfortunate that these people are entering educational campuses and persuading students to participate in unauthorized demonstrations.' Singh criticized a planned meeting organized by a group called All Manipur Students on September 18 at Dhanmanjuri University in Imphal. He said the meeting scheduled without permission is illegal and warned that legal action will be taken.

Government does not recognize the meeting
Singh said, 'Appropriate legal and preventive measures will be taken.' He stressed that the government does not recognize or support this meeting. Thounaojam Basantakumar Singh also reiterated that normal classes have resumed recently and stressed that students should remain in classes during school hours.

Singh said the department had a target of holding 229 class days for the entire year, of which 153 days had already been completed and 19 days had been lost due to floods, natural calamities and social unrest. He said an investigation was underway to identify and trace the organisers of the unauthorised meeting.

It is worth noting that the situation in Manipur is still tense. Despite all efforts, peace is not being maintained in the state
