Sunil Chhetri, Captain of Indian Football Team Announced Retirement

Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri has announced his retirement from international football. 

Team's forward player Chhetri informed about his retirement by sharing a video on social media on Thursday. 

Chhetri said that he will play his last match against Kuwait on June 6.


India's star batsman Virat Kohli commented on Sunil Chhetri's post. He wrote, 'My brother, we are proud of you.'

Chhetri has 94 goals in his name for the Indian team. He is the active player who has scored the most international goals after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Sunil Chhetri was born on August 3, 1984 in Secunderabad. His father KB Chhetri was an army man, while mother Sushila has played for the Nepal national football team.

Chhetri was awarded the Khel Ratna Award in the year 2021. Earlier he had received Padma Shri in 2019 and Arjuna Award in 2011. 

Apart from this, Chhetri won the AIFF Player of the Year award six times in his illustrious career.

Sunil Chhetri made his debut for India in the senior team in 2005. After Bhaichung Bhutia he took charge of the team. He has scored 94 goals in 150 matches for India.
