T20 World Champion Team India Left Barbados. To Land in Delhi at 6 am (IST) on Thursday

The departure of the T20 World Cup winning Indian cricket team from the Caribbean island has been delayed as the charter flight is yet to arrive here. 

A special Air India charter flight named AIC24WC (Air India Champions 24 World Cup) is set to bring back the Indian team, its support staff, players' families and some Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials and Indian media who have been stranded here for the last three days due to cyclone Beryl.

The Rohit Sharma -led team won the title with a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the final on Saturday. The flight, which took off from New Jersey in the USA on July 2, is expected to reach Barbados at 2 am local time. 

As per the schedule, the flight is now expected to take off from Barbados at 4.30 am (local time)

It will take 16 hours to reach Delhi where the team will land at 6 am (Indian time) on Thursday, provided there is no further delay in the team's departure. Operations at the Grantley Adams International Airport here resumed on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Indian team was to leave on July 2 at 6 pm local time and reach on Wednesday at 7:45 pm (Indian time). Prime Minister Narendra Modi will felicitate the players but this program has not been finalized yet. Hurricane Beryl has now come down from category five to become a category four storm and is moving towards Jamaica.

It is worth mentioning that the Indian team defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final. Virat Kohli scored a half century in the thrilling match. For this, he was chosen as the Player of the Match, while Jaspreet Bumrah was given the Player of the Tournament award for his lethal bowling. After this match, Virat Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from this format.
