Take The Country Into Confidence on Border Situation With China: Kharge to Govt

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday reiterated his party's demand and said the central government should take the country into confidence over the situation along the border with China.

Kharge shared a report on 'X' which, citing satellite images, claimed that the Chinese army has been digging in the area around Pangong Lake in eastern Ladakh for a long time and has built underground bunkers to store weapons and fuel and shelters for armoured vehicles at a key base in the region.

Kharge said, "How can China build a military base near Pangong So on the land that was in India's possession till May 2020?"

There was no immediate reaction from the BJP or the Central government on Kharge's post, but the ruling party and the government have rejected all allegations of the Congress on the issue in the past.

India has stressed the importance of 'complete military withdrawal' from the remaining areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh to restore peace and tranquility with China.

Kharge said in his post, "As we enter the fifth year of the 'clean chit' given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Galwan Valley incident, where our brave soldiers sacrificed their lives, China continues to encroach upon our territorial integrity!"

He said that remember the day of 10th April 2024, when in an interview given to the foreign press, Prime Minister Narendra Modi failed to strongly present India's side on the global platform.

Kharge said that the statement of the Foreign Minister on April 13, 2024 that 'China has not occupied any of our land' exposes the Modi government's soft policy towards China!
He said on 'X' that during a meeting with his Chinese counterpart on July 4, 2024, the Indian Foreign Minister said, "It is necessary to respect the LAC and ensure peace and harmony in the border areas."

Kharge said China was adopting an aggressive stance to occupy Indian territory and build a military base in Sirijap even though the land was allegedly under Indian control.

He alleged that the Modi government was responsible for not maintaining the status quo on the Line of Actual Control.

He also alleged that India had lost control of 26 out of 65 patrolling points (PP), including those located in the Depsang plains, Demchok and Gogra Hot Spring areas.

Kharge alleged that 'Modi's China guarantee' continues as his government puts a huge 56-inch 'China blinker' on its 'red eye'.

He said Congress once again reiterates its demand to take the country into confidence on the border situation on the LAC.

Kharge said, "We stand shoulder to shoulder with our brave soldiers."

The standoff between Indian and Chinese troops has been continuing in eastern Ladakh since May 2020 and the border dispute has not been fully resolved yet, although troops of both countries have retreated from several standoff points.

Relations between the two countries have deteriorated significantly after the fierce clash in the Galwan Valley in June 2020. It was the most serious military conflict between the two countries in several decades.

India has been saying that its relations with China cannot be normal until peace is restored in the border areas. The two sides have so far held 21 rounds of Corps Commander-level talks to resolve the deadlock.
