RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav has been declared the Chief Ministerial face of the Grand Alliance for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The announcement was made by senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot at a joint press conference of the alliance held in Patna on Wednesday.
Gehlot stated that if the alliance comes to power, Mukesh Sahni, president of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), will be appointed Deputy Chief Minister, while additional deputy chief ministers from backward communities will also be included in the cabinet to ensure social balance and representation.
"Tejashwi Yadav is our leader. The NDA should clarify who their CM face will be. Merely saying the elections will be fought under Nitish Kumar’s leadership is not enough," Gehlot remarked, taking a swipe at the ruling alliance.
In his response, Tejashwi Yadav expressed gratitude to the alliance partners for their trust. “You’ve reposed faith in me once again. I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. We will uproot this 20-year-old, incompetent government and bring real change to Bihar,” he said.
The 50-minute-long joint press conference saw participation from fourteen leaders representing seven parties, including the RJD, Congress, and VIP. Leaders from all parties emphasized unity and collective commitment to offering Bihar a credible alternative to the NDA.
Political observers view the announcement as a major step towards consolidating opposition forces in Bihar ahead of a high-stakes election where leadership clarity and caste balance are expected to play crucial roles.
