Tension continues In Manipur

Tension continues to prevail in Manipur after the violence that erupted last year.

Recently, citing a government intelligence report, it was claimed that 900 Kuki militants had infiltrated the state from Myanmar to attack the Meitei community on September 28.

Regarding this, many Kuki groups have called for a bandh in tribal-dominated areas. However, now the state government has clearly stated that the possibility of any kind of planned attack by armed groups is very low.

Security advisor Kuldeep Singh and DGP Rajiv Singh have issued a joint statement on Wednesday. It said, 'It was reported that 900 Kuki militants have infiltrated Manipur from Myanmar and they will attack the Meitei community on September 28.

However, in view of the recent reactions of various communities in this regard, it is clarified that this information was verified from some quarters, but it could not be verified on the ground reality. At present there is no basis to believe any such information.'

Earlier on September 20, Singh had said that the security forces have taken several steps in view of the possibility of violence by the militants in the surrounding villages.

He also said that the security forces are on high alert to protect the lives and property of the civilians. All communities are assured of their safety. The public is advised not to believe any rumors or fake news.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister's Secretary N. Geoffrey said that the office had shared intelligence in view of the activity of armed groups. The purpose of this was that the police department could use its network to gather further information and remain alert for action.

He said that now it has come to light that the possibility of any kind of attack by armed groups is very low. The public does not need to worry in this regard.  Congress MLA had expressed concern Earlier on Wednesday, Congress MLA TS Lokeshwar had expressed concern over Kuldeep Singh's claim. He had said that reports of 900 Kuki militants entering the state had created panic in the outlying villages of Imphal valley.

He had also said that Kuldeep should clarify the basis of his claim and what measures have been taken to counter the militants. Villagers should not be left to live in fear. Singh said that the hill districts of Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Ukhrul, Kamjong and Pherzawl have been put on high alert
