Tension In West Asia: PM Modi Chaired Cabinet Meeting On Security

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security on Thursday regarding the tension in West Asia. 

The meeting discussed the conflict in West Asia and its impact on trade and supply of petroleum products. 

India expressed deep concern over the growing security situation in West Asia. It said that the conflict should not take a wider regional dimension. India also called for resolving all issues through dialogue and diplomacy.

Meanwhile the Israel Defense Forces have announced the death of a soldier in an attack in South Lebanon. According to The Times of Israel, the killed soldier, Captain Ben Zion Falach, was a member of the 202nd Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade. 

His death brings the number of IDF soldiers killed in the attack against Hezbollah in South Lebanon to nine.

However Gulf Arab states attended an Qatar-hosted Asian summit discussed de-escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran. 

According to The Times of Israel, Gulf Arab countries have sought to assure Iran of their neutrality in the conflict as they worry that a wider escalation in violence could threaten Gulf oil facilities.

On the other hand Russia and Israeli diplomats discussed West Asia tensions. According to media reports, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov held a meeting with Israeli Ambassador to Moscow Simona Halperin.  The ministry said that Bogdanov and Halperin discussed the situation in West Asia, including Gaza and Lebanon.
