Three Killed as Train Collides with Pickup at Unauthorised Crossing in Tripura

Three people were killed on Thursday after a passenger train collided with a pickup truck at an unauthorised crossing in the Ambassa–Manu section of Tripura’s Dhalai district. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) confirmed that the accident occurred around 1:12 pm when the Agartala–Silchar Express (DN 15663) was passing through the area.

According to a statement issued by Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR, the pickup truck suddenly entered the track, leaving the loco pilot with too little time to stop the train. The impact resulted in the deaths of the truck driver and one other occupant.

The damaged vehicle was removed from the railway line by 1:30 pm, and the train resumed its journey at 1:34 pm.

NFR authorities stated that the site of the accident is an unauthorised crossing, and repeated attempts to close it have faced resistance from local residents. Officials from Agartala had last visited the location on October 5 to seal the illegal crossing but were unsuccessful.

The railway has once again appealed to the public to avoid using unauthorised crossings, cautioning that such violations pose serious risks to lives and railway operations.
