'Today's War Can't Be Won With Yesterday's Weapons': CDS

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan said on Wednesday that we cannot win today's battles with yesterday's weapons. He said dependence on technology imported from abroad weakens our war preparedness.

CDS said that this is making us weak. Operation Sindoor showed us why it is important for us to have indigenous C-UAS (Counter-Unmanned Aerial System) i.e. anti-drone system. We have to invest for our security.

During Operation Sindoor, Pakistan used unarmed drones. Most of the drones were shot down. They could not cause any damage to any of our military or civil infrastructure.

CDS said these things at the exhibition of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and C-UAS (Counter-Unmanned Aerial System) at Manekshaw Centre in Delhi.

On the use of drones in war, General Chauhan said- I think drones are evolutionary and their use in war has been very revolutionary. As their deployment and scope increased, the army used drones in a revolutionary way. You have seen this in many of the wars we have fought.

He said- We cannot depend on imported technology, because it is important for our war and defense operations. Dependence on foreign technology weakens our preparedness. It reduces our ability to increase production. This leads to a shortage of important mechanical parts.

CDS General Chauhan had said in a lecture on 'Future of War and War' at Pune University on June 3, 'On the night of May 10, Pakistan had planned to bring India to its knees in 48 hours. It carried out simultaneous attacks at several places, but its plan failed in just 8 hours. After this, fearing huge losses, it called for ceasefire. We only targeted terrorist hideouts.'

He had said that just a few weeks before what happened in Pahalgam, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir had spewed venom against India and Hindus. What happened in Pahalgam was cruelty. The purpose of Operation Sindoor was to stop state-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan.

On the question of losing fighter jets during India-Pakistan tension, CDS Chauhan said- When I was asked about our losses, I said that these are not important, because the result and how you act is important. It would not be very correct to talk about losses and numbers.

Giving the example of cricket, he said, "Suppose you go to play a cricket test match and you lose by one innings, then how many wickets, how many balls and how many players are there. There is no question of this."
