Top Leaders of Political Parties Should Set 'Good Examples': EC on MCC Violation

The Election Commission on Tuesday said that during the Lok Sabha election campaign, top leaders of political parties should set such 'good examples' which are expected from them.

The Commission said that to ensure that the social fabric of the country is not damaged, it is primarily the responsibility of the leaders to correct their election speeches in the remaining phases of the elections.

Presenting its second report on the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct since the announcement of Lok Sabha elections on March 16, the Commission said that it has resolved 90 percent of the complaints and except a few complaints by Congress and BJP, there is no major complaint from the parties.

The Commission said, "After completion of almost two months of implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, the campaigning of various political parties and candidates at the constituency level has been largely violence-free, with less noise and uproar and free from inducements."
