Traffic Advisory Issued in Imphal Ahead of PM Modi’s Likely Visit on Sept 13

The Manipur Traffic Control Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory to ensure smooth vehicular movement, public safety, and prevent congestion ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s likely visit to Imphal on September 13.

Though no official confirmation has been released, preparations are underway at Peace Ground in Churachandpur, with Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, GOC of the Spear Corps, reviewing the prevailing security situation in the state.

According to the advisory issued by the Superintendent of Police, the southern gate of Kangla — located less than 200 metres from the Chief Minister’s official residence — will be reserved exclusively for VVIP entry and exit. The northern gate will serve VIPs, officials with passes, and pedestrians.

Public vehicles ferrying attendees to Kangla will be required to drop passengers at designated points including Minuthong, Imphal Hotel, and Wahengbam Leikai/Uripok Thongkha, before moving to parking zones at Hatta Kangjeibung, NCC Ground, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, or ISBT.

To ease congestion, diversions will be in place:

Vehicles from Thoubal will be diverted at Singjamei Bridge.

Those from Singjamei Chingamakha–Heirangoithong Road will be redirected at Singjamei Chinga Crossing.

Traffic from Tiddim and Mayai Lambi sides will be diverted at Keishampat Junction.

Additionally, a 10-minute advance cut-off will be enforced on all routes connecting Kangla to the airport during VVIP movement. Ambulances and fire service vehicles will remain exempt. Authorities have appealed to the public for cooperation, clarifying that restrictions will only apply during VVIP arrivals and departures.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army said the corps commander visited critical security zones in Kangpokpi district, including Maphitel Ridge and Maphou Dam, to review operational readiness. He also interacted with troops and commanders to assess preparedness for emerging security challenges in the region.
