On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress voiced strong criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, alleging a steady erosion of women’s rights and a disturbing rise in crimes against women across the country.
Marking the day, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee organized a programme at the Mahila Congress Bhavan in Agartala. The event aimed to highlight issues related to women’s safety, safeguard their rights, and mobilize public opinion for political change at both the state and national levels under the BJP-led governments. The leaders also reiterated their demand for the protection of the country’s secular constitutional framework.
Addressing the gathering, leaders of the Pradesh Mahila Congress alleged that incidents of violence against women have risen alarmingly under the BJP’s rule both at the Centre and in the state. They expressed deep concern over frequent reports of brutal assaults and atrocities against women emerging from various parts of the country, describing the trend as a serious social crisis.
The leaders further claimed that, in several cases, individuals associated with the BJP, including party leaders and activists, have been accused in incidents involving violence against women. In this context, they urged citizens to unite in protest and intensify the struggle to ensure the protection of women’s safety, dignity, and fundamental rights.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the programme also issued a call to women across the state to come forward and participate in a broader movement advocating for gender justice, safety, and equal rights.
