Tripura: 120 People Testing AIDS Possitive Every Month, CM

"120 people are getting infected with AIDS every month in the state. According to the data till May 2025, there are more than 5,000 AIDS patients in the state. Out of them, more than 1,000 are women. Homosexuals are also infected with AIDS. From April 2023 to March 2024, 2 lakh 4,180 people have been tested for AIDS in the state. Surprisingly, 1,400 of them have tested positive for the virus. In the last two months, 4,052 people have been tested for AIDS. Out of them, 300 have tested positive for HIV."
Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha said that this number is increasing day by day due to initiative.
Chief Minister Dr Saha made this disclosure while inaugurating a public awareness seminar on HIV/AIDS, jointly organized by Tripura AIDS Control Society and the Health Department, at the lobby of the Tripura Legislative Assembly today.
Members of the State Legislative Assembly participated in the seminar.
Speaking in this discussion session, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman demanded that sex and drug education be made mandatory in schools in the state from class 8 to class 12. He also said that students should be more attracted to sports. He demanded that an AIDS prevention fund be formed and one lakh rupees be spent from the MLA Area Development Project.
Along with this, MLA Sudip Roy Barman demanded that AIDS testing be made mandatory for patients coming for treatment in hospitals.
Meanwhile, while speaking, Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha acknowledged the legitimacy of MLA Sudip Roy Barman's demand.
He said that sex and drug education can be made mandatory in schools by talking to the officials of the education department.
He also assured about the formation of an AIDS prevention fund. However, he said that making AIDS tests mandatory in hospitals without anyone's permission may create complications.
The Chief Minister said that public awareness on the prevention of HIV/AIDS in the state should be further raised among the people. The youth should be more involved in sports, cultural activities and social work. In this regard, representatives of the three-tier panchayats, MPs and guardians should play a major role.
Inaugurating this public awareness program, the Chief Minister also said that the healthier the society, the healthier and stronger human life will be.
He said that all kinds of tests are being conducted to prevent AIDS.
He said that AIDS is a deadly disease. Therefore, the state government has taken various steps to prevent AIDS.
"The state government is working on a zero tolerance policy to keep the state free from AIDS and drug addiction" he said.
The Chief Minister said that the youth should be made more aware about AIDS. To eliminate such deadly diseases from the society, the public representatives should rise above politics and work together. Only then will the desired success be achieved in preventing this deadly disease.
