Tripura: 27 Mortars Shells From 1971 India-Pakistan War Found in Excavation

At least 27 mortar shells from the 1971 Indo-Pak war era has been recovered on Thursday from Bamutia under West Tripura district. 

Giving information, officials said that these shells were found when laborers were digging a pond at the house of a person named Dulal Nama. 

Police said initially 12 mortar shells were found and then after further digging, 15 more were recovered. 

"The mortar shells, which are around 50 years old, are badly damaged," said the in-charge of the Bamutia police outpost.

Assistant Inspector General Ananta Das confirmed the recovery of the mortar shells. He said, "The shells are damaged, due to which the labels have been destroyed and it is not possible to know their exact location and date of manufacture."

Villagers say that the shells were hidden in the ground by Mukti Bahini (Bangladesh freedom fighters) members during the war. But they might not have been able to retrieve them later"
