In an uncommon demonstration of cross-party cohesion, the Tripura Legislative Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution recommending the advancement of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections. The House has proposed rescheduling the polling date to April 12, instead of the earlier notified April 13.
The matter was raised during Zero Hour by Congress MLA and former minister Sudip Roy Barman, who underscored that the existing polling date coincides with key cultural festivities, including the tribal festival Biju and the Bengali New Year, Pohela Boishakh.
Highlighting the cultural significance of the day, Barman urged the Assembly to arrive at a unanimous position and formally petition the State Election Commission to reconsider the schedule.
He further advocated a reassessment of the vote-counting date fixed for April 17, cautioning that the timing of result declarations could have potential ramifications for electoral processes in other states, notably Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
The resolution will now be formally communicated to the State Election Commission as an official recommendation to revise the election timeline.
