Tripura Cabinet Minister Counters Opposition Leader on 'Child Selling' Issue

State opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury has created confusion over the sale of children. Tripura Cabinet Minister Sushanta Chowdhury counters regarding the 'Child selling due to poverty" letter to the Chief Secretary of the state by opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury in a press conference at Civil Secretariat on Monday.

Addressing the press he said that:

On May 25, state opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury wrote to Chief Secretary JK Sinha and Dhalai District Magistrate claiming that Mormari Tripura, a resident of Taraban Colony in Gandachhara, had sold her child for Rs 5,000.

He mentioned in the letter, Mormari Tripura's sale of child proves that there is no good governance in the state. And demanded immediate action.

Then the Chief Minister goes above politics and directed the district administration to look into the matter. Then the administration investigated the matter and found that Mormari Tripura's husband Purnyajoy Tripura died six months ago. His elder son works in Bangalore, second daughter is married. The rest of the boys and girls are studying. But this child is his sixth child.

Then came to know from the district administration that the family of Mormari Tripura is getting all the support of government rationing. But it is known that she was six months pregnant when her husband died. Then he wished that this child should not be born.

Talked to the doctor about this. But the doctors said that the child is already full in the womb. Then this child was born on May 22. Then on May 23 she voluntarily sent the proposal to Binay Kumar Debbarma of Hejamara. Then the Child Development Project Officer and Deputy Collector intervened, then the adoption could not take place due to legal complications.

Then a delegation of Anganwadi workers and Child Protection Commission went there and sent Mormari Debbarma to Kulai Hospital. This did not happen due to the proactivity of Childline, Child Protection Commission and administration. This is not right that the mother sold her child due to lack of money.

Therefore, the comments of opposition leaders are baseless said.

The present government is the people's government. It is not like CPIM who cannot criticism.
