Tripura Celebrated World Tourism Day

"Tourism industry is one of the sectors of economic growth of the country and the state. The state government is working on a multi-pronged plan to develop tourism. As a result, the number of domestic and foreign tourists is increasing in the state."

 This was said by Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha while inaugurating the World Tourism Day celebrations at Rabindra Centenary Bhavan on Friday.

In the speech of the chief guest, Chief Minister Dr. Saha said that since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has started observing September 27 as the World Tourism Day across the country. Since then, World Tourism Day is being celebrated on September 27 based on the ideas set in different countries around the world.

The theme of Tourism Day 2024 is 'Tourism and Peace'. This year the host country of World Tourism Day is Georgia. On the occasion, Chief Minister said that the natural environment of Tripura is one of the resources of tourism. There are also various temples and mosques for religious tourism. Tripureshwari Temple, Kasba Kalibari, Fourteenth Devata Bari, Mangalchandi Temple of Amarpur, Mahamuni Pagoda etc are important religious tourist centers of the state.


On the occasion, Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha said that for the development of the state's tourism industry, efforts are underway to renovate the Matabari of Udaipur. Narkelkunj and Dambur have already been made attractive to tourists. Log huts have been introduced there. The infrastructure of tourist centers of the state is being developed through various central schemes. Tourism is one of the largest sources of employment and plays a very important role in economic prosperity and poverty alleviation of society. 41 modern log huts have been constructed and commissioned in various tourist centers of the state. Light and sound show launched at Ujjayant Palace. Helipad has been constructed at Coconut Kunj. Water scooters/jet skis, floating jetties, modern motorized boats have been launched in Dambur reservoir.

The Chief Minister said that through the Swadesh Darshan-1.0 project, the infrastructure development work of tourist centers like Agartala, Sipahijala, Melaghar, Udaipur,h Amarpur, Mandirghat, Tirthmukh, Narkelkunj, Dambur, Ambasa, Niramhal and Baramura has been completed. The chief minister said that the infrastructure development work of Mata Tripurasundari temple premises is almost at the final stage through the 'Prasad' project by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, with the aim of developing the Mata Tripurasundari temple as a spiritual tourism center. Surmachra Water Falls Tourism Center has already been inaugurated in Kamalpur sub-division to develop a new tourist center. In order to develop the tourism infrastructure of the state, the work of developing the tourism infrastructure of Chitramura, Sonamukhi area of ​​Kailashahar, Chaturdash Devata Mandir and Kasba Kali Mandir area has been undertaken through the Asian Development Bank. Among these, work has started in Sonamukhi area in Chirmamura and Kailasah. About 180 crore rupees will be spent for the development of these tourist centers.

The Chief Minister said that work has started to upgrade Pushpavant Palace and Durbar Hall into Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya Museum and Cultural Centre. Initiatives have been taken to purchase state-of-the-art house boats for Dambur reservoir. Initiatives have been taken to introduce home stays to make the state's tourism industry more attractive. Plans have been taken to develop 4 more islands around Narkelkunj under the North Eastern Special Infrastructure Development Project under the Ministry of North Eastern Development. He said that MOU has been signed between Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Limited and National Highways Logistics Management Limited for construction of ropeway from Udaipur Railway Station to Matabari, Maharani to Chirmura, Surmachra and Jampui Hill. 692 crores will be spent for this.
On the occasion, Tourism Minister Sushant Chowdhury said that through tourism it is possible to know the unknown and to know the unknown. Besides, there is also potential for economic growth of the state based on tourism. Therefore, the state government with the help of the central government has taken initiatives to develop the tourism sector of the state. 

Initiatives have been taken to make various tourist spots in the state like Narikelkunj, Chiramura, Matabari and Unkoti more attractive to tourists. Not only that, former cricketer Sourav Ganguly has been made the brand ambassador to bring the state's tourism on the world tourism map. The tourism minister also said that the tourism department stands by the families affected by the recent floods in the state. State tourism brand ambassador Sourav Ganguly also donated Rs 10 lakh to help the flood-affected people. An initiative has been taken to send various relief items to the flood affected families with this money. Dr. Secretary of Tourism Department also spoke on the occasion. TK Debnath Managing Director Prashant Badal Negi. Shudhanshu Das, Minister of Tapashili Jati Kalyan Department, Agartala Pur Nigam Mayor Deepak Majumder and others were also present in the event.

On the occasion of World Tourism Day, the heroes who have shown immense courage in saving human lives during the recent floods are honored. Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha handed over mementos, certificates and monetary awards to them. 

The best employees of the department including the best tour operator, the best tourist lodge manager, the best driver, the best adventure club were awarded on the occasion. The winners of the debate competition organized to celebrate the World Tourism Day were also awarded. The Chief Minister and other guests gave them souvenirs and certificates as prizes
