The Council of Ministers of Tripura has sanctioned the pilot implementation of the Centre’s “Nari Adalat” scheme across 10 gram panchayats, alongside approving a range of recruitment initiatives and welfare measures, Cabinet spokesperson and Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced on Thursday.
Addressing the media following the cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday, Chowdhury stated that the Nari Adalat initiative—introduced by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment—will be rolled out on a pilot basis across selected panchayats spanning eight districts of the state.

The designated panchayats include Fulbari (North Tripura), Srirampur (Unakoti), West Sonatala (Khowai), Lembucherra (West Tripura), Khedabari (Sepahijala), Tepania (Gomati), Vivekananda Palli (South Tripura), and Singanala, Halahali, and North Halahali in Dhalai district.
Under the framework of the scheme, each panchayat will constitute a committee comprising no more than nine socially esteemed individuals. These bodies will function as quasi-judicial arbitration forums at the grassroots level, empowered to deliberate on cases involving atrocities against women and to recommend police intervention where warranted.

The initiative seeks to create an accessible and less intimidating redressal mechanism for women who may be hesitant to approach formal law enforcement institutions.
In a parallel decision, the cabinet approved comprehensive guidelines to facilitate structured coaching support for Tripura-domiciled graduates aspiring to appear in national-level competitive examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), and Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS).
Dedicated coaching centres will be established at the Bir Chandra State Central Library in Agartala, Netaji Subhash Mahavidyalaya in Udaipur, and Government Degree College in Ambassa, each accommodating 100 aspirants. Selection will be strictly merit-based through a screening examination administered by the Higher Education Department. Financial allocations for these centres were incorporated in the previous state budget.
Furthermore, the cabinet approved an enhancement of the daily stipend for Scheduled Caste hostel boarders from ₹80 to ₹100, a measure set to benefit 712 students residing in 33 boys’ hostels, 20 girls’ hostels, and one NGO-operated hostel across the state.
Additionally, the government sanctioned the recruitment of 32 junior drivers in the Health and Family Welfare Department on a fixed-pay basis through direct recruitment by the Transport Department.
It also cleared the appointment of 10 revenue inspectors and six assistant survey officers through the Tripura Public Service Commission, with all appointments to be made in strict adherence to the prevailing reservation roster.
